Hockey Gear That Isn't Normally Talked About by Gregster Ovechken
Wow, so there are all types of hockey gear out there in the world. That's no surprise right? Of course not. There must be a million brands out there. These brands will have their own types of gear that is popular. So what will I speak of today regarding my favorite sport? You can try and guess, but you won't be able to get it. That is because hockey players aren't too bright. Ok, I'm kidding there are smart ones out there. So how smart are you? How many times have you been hit with a puck? I'm not going to tell you, yet. Well, what's next on the list of equipment that everyone talks about. Oh yeah, the helmet! Those hard plastic shields for your head. Nope, not gonna talk about that. So take that off your list you dumb hockey player. Is it in the shinpads. Shinpads are very good for knee protection and well the shins of course. Wrong again sir. I won't even discuss it. So, what is the point of all this. What am I going to talk about. Well, all of you who play the game of hockey can look to the next paragraph.
Tape! That's right your good old fashioned hockey stick tape. Everyone expected me to talk about a popular pair of hockey skates. Is this really considered hockey equipment? Yeah, it is. It's a part of every players gear. So what can it do? It can help your blade not wear down so fast that's what. That's all you ask? No. You see, hockey tape has many uses not just one. One of the best uses that I've found out of it, is that helps keep the puck or hockey ball on your blade. An untaped blade can see the ball or puck bounce off of it. When accepting or intercepting a pass the tape causes more friction and you can cradle it better. Does this have a downside. Possibly. It might actually decrease your shot speed. How do you make up for that? One word. Dangle.
Dangling is mostly done in roller hockey. It is essentially puck tricks. Its not like your good old fashioned stick handling or dekes. You can actually dangle the puck on your blade and whip it around for crazy looking goals. The tape helps the puck adhere to your blade more. It's much harder to do this without tape. It also looks cool.
